Lunglei is an important city located in the northeast state of Mizoram. Due to its dramatic landscape and pleasant climate, it is considered by many as one of the most beautiful places in the northeast. It is a nature lover’s paradise. The town of Lunglei has several amazing tourist attraction.

Lunglei is blessed with incomparable natural scenic beauty. The place attracts thousands of tourists from far and wide who are absolutely stunned with the mesmerizing sight of the places. Some of the notable tourist places in and around Lunglei are:

Serkawn

Serkawn is a small village located within the Lunglei Administrative Block. The village is an important tourist spot in Lunglei. It is 107   kms from Aizawl. Serkawn is the home of Christianity and formal education in southern Mizoram. Southern Mizoram’s oldest hospital and schools are located here. It still remains the centre of administration of Baptist Church of Mizoram. It was called "Lemonvale" by the British due to the abundance of lemon trees grown here. During the 20th century, this place remained an important centre of music and learning.

Theiriat Tlang

Theiriat tlang is a beautiful hill located in Lunglei. From the hill top the visitors can have a mesmerizing view of the entire town of Lunglei, except the western side of the city. One can just sit and relax in the shade of the tress. It is an ideal place to spend a day with your friends and family in the quiet and peaceful surrounding.

Nghasih Stream

Nghasih Stream

Nghasih stream is another important tourist place in Lunglei. It is a tiny stream in Lunglei that eventually flowas into the River Tlawng. This was the place where the baptism of the first Mizo believers by the pioneer missionaries in the year 1904 took place. It is an ideal spot for picnic and also the visitors can enjoy fishing here.

Lung-lei Rock Bridge

It is a popular tourist spot in Lenglei. It is a rock bridge located over a small stream. Built by the Art and Culture Department, the pillar by the side of the bridge gives you brief information about history of the Mizos.

Saza Wildlife Sanctuary

The Saza Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the western part of Mizoram in Lunglei district. It is located around 160 kms from Aizawl and is spread over an area of 15 sq kms. The sanctuary is a home to fauna species like the barking deer, leopard, Rhesus monkey and a variety of birds. The nearest railway station is n Silchar and the nearest airport is the Lengpui Airport in Aizawl.

Khawnglung Wildlife Sanctuary

Khawnglung Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife sanctuary is located at a distance of about 170 kms from Aizawl. The sanctuary covers an area of 35 sq kms and has an altitude that range from 400 meters up to 1300 meters. The terrain of the wildlife sanctuary is covered with sub tropical and semi evergreen forests. The climate of the sanctuary is pleasant and warm throughout the year.

 The sanctuary experiences an annual rainfall of 2100 mm to 2500 mm. the average temperature of the sanctuary varies from 20º to 30ºC in summers and 10º-18ºC in winters. The main fauna species found in this sanctuary are the serow, wild boar, barking deer, hollock gibbon, sambar deer, Rhesus macaque and leopard. The sanctuary is well connected by road.  The nearest airport is the Lengpui airport in Aizawl and the nearest railway station is in Silchar. The most beneficial time to visit is from Oct to March.

Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife sanctuary is located in the Lunglei district of Mizoram. It is situated in the western side of Mizoram at a distance of around 240 kms from Aizawl. The sanctuary covers an area of 50 sq kms. The terrain of the sanctuary is covered with semi evergreen forests that provide a good corridor for the wild elephants to migrate into the country of Bangladesh.

The fauna species found in the sanctuary are leopard, elephant, gaur, wild dog, sambar, barking deer, sloth bear, leaf monkey, rhesus macaque, common langur, giant squirrel , jungle cat,  porcupine, slow loris, wild boar and a variety of birds. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from October to March.

Saikuti Hall

This is a hall where many religious ceremonies and social gatherings of the district take place. It is one of the largest halls of Mizoram and hosts many concerts, celebrations and popular attractions. A museum was also established in the hall to showcase the skills of the local painters of this region.
